SUS thanks Camilla Sjölund Lundevall and welcomes new Chief Operating Officer

After almost a decade as the Chief Operating Officer at SUS, Camilla Sjölund Lundevall is retiring. Camilla has been an invaluable part of SUS – a stable force in the office, a strategic support for the presidium and a guiding star in the development of the organization. At the same time, we welcome a new Chief Operating Officer who, with commitment and curiosity, is ready to take over the lead.

Camilla Sjölund Lundevall took on the role in 2016, appointed by the student union board. Now – almost nine years later – she leaves a SUS that is characterized by a long-term perspective, clearer goals and a stronger common core of values.

– SUS today works in a different way than when I took office, says Camilla. We have become a more learning and purposeful organization, which acts systematically and with a greater focus on the students' actual influence.

Camilla particularly highlights the trusting cooperation with presidiums and student union boards over the years, and the respectful relationship that has developed between elected representatives and the office.

– That relationship has laid the foundation for SUS to develop in important areas: a more qualitative student influence, a more strategic member work and better conditions for engagement on campus, she says.

One of the most memorable moments during her time at SUS was when she was elected as a honorary member of SUS by the Representative Assembly. Camilla describes it as an incredibly moving and honoring moment that tied all previous experiences and moments together. And now new adventures await! And now new adventures await! Possibly studies at Stockholm University, but mainly more time with the family.

– My mother is 92 years old and I want to see her often. I look forward to do that!

At the same time, SUS welcomes its new Chief Operating Officer – Sofia Holmdahl. She has long been active in the student movement, both within SUS and nationally. Sofia has worked at the office for several years, most recently as team leader and deputy Chief Operations Officer.

– I started getting involved in student influence in 2015, when I got frustrated with something in my education. One thing led to another, and since then I have been stuck here, says Sofia.

She describes the leadership role as a way to create better conditions for student organization and influence, something that has been a common thread throughout her career.

– Camilla has been incredibly important to SUS and to the student movement in general. I am curious about what it will be like to take over from her – but I believe in my abilities to take on the role and do it my way.

When Sofia is not working, you can often find her on the road, looking for new municipalities to check off in her life project to visit all of Sweden's municipalities, or perhaps with an cappuccino with oatmilk in hand together with her best friend, the Chihuahua Juni.
