Frequently Asked Questions About SUS Membership

Questions about membership and payment

  • Anyone can become a supporting member and thereby financially support SUS's work with student governance.

To become a regular member who can access SUS’s membership benefits, such as the membership card via Studentkortet STUK, SSSB's housing queue and the like, you must be a registered student or doctoral student at Stockholm University (SU). For students, this means that every semester you need to be registered for at least one (ECTS) credit at SU in Ladok.

It is not enough to be accepted to a course, to be registered on a program or to study for re-exams, but you must be (re)registered on a course at SU every semester to have a regular membership.

Sick leave, parental leave from studies or taking courses at other universities within the framework of a program at SU are also not enough to have a regular membership, but at least one credit must be from studies at SU each semester. However, it does not matter whether your studies take place on site or remotely. Doctoral students whose study pace is not shown in Ladok need to contact SUS’s service desk to have their study pace registered in SUS’s system.

Exceptions that can also warrant a regular membership:

    • You who carry out exchange studies in another country can become a regular member if your exchange takes place via Stockholm University and is registered in Ladok. You may need to contact SUS’s service desk to have your registration registered in SUS’s system.

    • You who are an Erasmus trainee from another country can become a regular member if you have a coordination number or equivalent and provide a certificate from your supervisor at SU.

    • You who are a visiting doctoral student from another country can become a regular member if you have a coordination number or equivalent and provide a certificate from your supervisor at SU.

  • Contact SUS’s service desk, and we will assist you further!

  • The membership fee for SUS is 125 SEK per semester, 240 SEK per year, or 500 SEK for six semesters.

  • SUS collaborates with The Humanities Faculty Club, The Social Sciences Association and The Natural Sciences Faculty Club, The Sociology Students’ Faculty Club, and The Teacher Student Association. When you pay your membership fee to SUS, adding a membership in one of these associations is free of charge.

  • You can purchase a membership at any time during the year. If you buy your membership during the spring semester and latest on June 30, you will receive a membership that is valid until September 15. If you buy your membership after July 1, it will be valid until February 15.

  • If you think that you have previously been a member, but you are unsure about your membership status for this semester, you can check it by logging in at https://www.sus.se/medlemslogin. Your username is the email address you registered when first signing up for a membership. If you have forgotten your password, press “Glömt lösenordet?” and fill in your email address in order to get an email that allows you to set a new password. If the email you receive says “Kontot [your email] använder inte lösenord”, send an email to info@sus.se explaining the issue and we will help you. When you have managed to log in, look at the section with your personal information, called “Personuppgifter”.

If “Medlem aktuell termin” says “Ja”, you have a full membership for this semester. If you still cannot access the membership card in the app STUK.CO, press the button “Ändra person” at your SUS page and make sure that all mandatory information, such as your Swedish home address, is complete. If you don’t have a Swedish home address, you may fill in the address of the student union: Adress: Universitetsvägen 2A, Postnummer: 11418, Ort: Stockholm. If you cannot access your membership card within 3 hours from completing your SUS profile, email info@sus.se and we will help you.

If “Medlem aktuell termin” says “Ja (stödmedlem)”, it means we have received your payment but no information about your course registrations from Stockholm university. Either the information is still on its way, or you are not yet registered. Do note that finishing courses from previous semesters is not enough, but your course registrations need to be made for this semester. Your department might tell you that you don’t need to re-register in order to finish the course, but if you wish to keep your student status, make sure that they re-register you if you need the student status for housing or discounts.

If “Medlem aktuell termin” says “Nej”, it means we have not received a payment for this semester. If you want to renew your membership, press the button “Förläng medlemskap” (in phone view hidden behind a small button with three dots), and continue to the payment process.

Questions about the membership or altering the membership

  • At the end and beginning of each semester, we send a reminder to all members to renew their membership. You log in to your SUS-page, click on "Renew membership," and follow the steps to make the payment.

  • If you want to switch to another partner association after you paid your membership fee, you need to contact info@sus.se. You can switch to another partner association at most once per semester.

If you want to be a member of several partner associations, it costs 125 SEK extra per association.

Questions regarding my SUS-pages/member login

  • During the spring of 2023 SUS launched a new system to make it safer, more convenient, and easier for members of SUS or those who are active in a council, an association or as a student representative to manage their membership or role. However, as it is new and still being tested, we have only been able to launch it in Swedish. If you need further guidance and help you can always contact SUS’s service desk and we will do our best to assist you!

  • The first time you become a member, you will receive an email with information on how to log in to your SUS-page. There, you can choose whether to log in by selecting a password or using BankID. If you have forgotten your password, you can order a new one by clicking on "Glömt lösenord". Contact SUS’s service desk if you still have problems.

  • Here, you can view and change your personal information, as well as see current information about your membership. If you have a role, for example, through a council or association, you can see your assignments, apply for project grants, and book meeting rooms.

  • This may be because we are waiting for your Ladok registration. But don't worry, it will be automatically updated as soon as the registration is received! It may also be because:

    • You are not registered for courses at SU yet. Admittance to a course or program is not enough for a regular membership.

    • If you have paid for a membership for a year or six semesters, they will be listed as "upcoming memberships". These will be marked as supporting memberships (Stödmedlem) until a registration for the applicable term is received from Ladok.

Questions regarding the SUS membership ID/card

  • SUS member ID is a digital student identification card that can be downloaded through the app Studentkortet/STUK.CO. The digital card serves as your member ID at SUS, and as a nationally recognized student ID that you can show whenever you need to prove that you are a student, for example, to receive student discounts.

  • If you are registered for at least 22.5 credits at Stockholm University, you will automatically have an SL logo on your digital member ID, which allows you to travel at a discounted price with Stockholm Public Transport (SL).

  • After your membership in SUS has been registered, you will receive an activation email from Studentkortet/STUK.CO with information on how to log in. Once you are in the app, click on the heading "My card," and you should see a pink card with the SUS logo and the logo of your chosen partner association.

  • If you want a physical member card, you can order it at www.studentkortet.se.

  • The activation email for the member ID is sent after we have received your payment and confirmation from Ladok that you are registered as a student or PhD student at Stockholm University.

If you haven't received your activation email, there could be several reasons:

    • We are missing your email address or have received the wrong email address from you. Log in to your SUS page here and check that you have provided the correct email address. When you are logged in, you can update your contact information.

    • The activation email may have ended up in your spam/junk inbox. The activation email is sent from Studentkortet/STUK.CO, not from SUS, so check that it hasn't been marked as spam or located under the "Promotions" tab.

    • We have not received your registration confirmation from Ladok. If you have not received an activation email, it is possible that it is because we have not received any information regarding your study pace from Ladok. Contact your department and let them know. The department is supposed to register your study pace in Ladok.

  • It is common for PhD students to have issues with their SUS membership card/STUK due to not being registered with study pace in Ladok. Contact your department for information on how to update your study pace yourself or through the department.

If your department doesn’t register its PhD students in Ladok, you need to send a certificate to SUS that confirms that you are a PhD student at Stockholm University, in order for us to verify that you are a PhD student. The documents we need are a certification of employment, your individual study plan (ISP) or a certificate from your department. It is important that the certificate contains the time period and employment rate. The certificate is sent to info@sus.se alongside your membership fee payment. You need to send a new certificate each semester.

Are you a visiting PhD student? First, make sure you have been assigned an ID number following the Swedish standard (T-number). If you have not received it from your department, you can contact SUS’s service desk, and we will help you obtain one when you become a member.

Questions regarding the app Studentkortet/STUK

  • It usually takes a few hours before information about your membership reaches Studentkortet STUK, given that we have received information about course registrations from Ladok. In order to log in at Studentkortet/STUK, you should use the 10-digit version of your ID number (official Swedish personnummer or T-number), leaving out the first two digits from your birth year (19 or 20) and the hyphen (-): yymmddTnnn.

  • The membership must be updated every semester following a new course registration for the new semester, by pressing the refresh-button in the corner of your card. When we receive your registration for the next semester from the University you will receive a new activation email from Studentkortet STUK, and will be able to update your card in the app. The membership of the previous semester is valid until September/February 15, in order to give you plenty of time to renew your membership before the old one expires.

Questions about SSSB (student housing queue)

  • It might take a few days for information in Ladok (from the University) to register in our systems at SUS, and a few more days before the information registers at SSSB, given that the SUS service desk is open and that everything works as it should. During the summer and over the Christmas holidays, no updates are sent to SSSB. It is thus important that you register your membership in time in order not to risk losing queue days.

Make sure that you are registered for courses at Stockholm University and that your ID-number and email address are the same when you register at SUS and at SSSB. If you use a T-number the ID-numbers won’t match, which makes it especially important that the email address is the same in both systems. The SSSB system cannot handle capital letters or gmx-addresses. In order to change your email address at SUS, login at your SUS-page or send an email to info@sus.se.

  • An active membership of SUS requires that you are registered for courses at Stockholm University, and because you are only registered one semester at a time, only one shows at a time. If you have paid a membership fee for several semesters, the membership period will be renewed as soon as we get information about new course registrations from Ladok.

  • When registering at SSSB for the first time, you may queue for 90 days before SUS’s membership needs to appear in their system. If no membership is found at the end of this period, your queue days will disappear. It might take a week or so before the SUS membership is properly reported to the SSSB system, so don’t wait until the last minute! If you think that your membership might not be registered in time, you have the possibility to login at your SSSB account and put your place in the queue on hold. Then wait until you see that the SUS membership is registered at SSSB before you activate your place in the queue again. This way you avoid losing your days.

If SSSB has registered your membership during a previous semester but no new membership is reported for this one, your days will automatically be put on hold. Your place in the queue can be put on hold for a maximum of 36 months. If the queue is not activated within this period, the days will disappear. Once queue days are lost, nothing can be done to restore them.
